IDAC are holding a 1 day seminar where we discuss the pro’s and con’s of conducting a full transient simulation on a wind turbine, with the objective of monitoring wake effects using CFD. Current models for investigating wind farms are based on simple rotating discs and linear turbulence schemes that do not investigate the vortex regions in enough resolution. As a consequence current simulation models predict higher efficiencies than actually seen during operations. In comparing and contrasting full transient CFD models to linear simulations, this seminar aims to address the suitability of each method at different design stages of a wind farm. In addition to the above, turbine positioning and blade design are also topics that will be addressed in this seminar. Date: Jan 20th, 2010, deadline for Registration: Dec15th, 2009.
