Spotlight: Large Eddy Simulations and Transient Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD)

Our expanding CFD business group continues to help businesses with their growing demand for virtual testing and prototyping. Given the complex nature of turbulent flows and their unsteady behavior, very often IDAC consultants have to resort to using more than just steady state simulations to predict the flow field in or around objects. Large Eddy Simulations are often used for industrial applications where the flow is intrinsically fluctuating or the Reynolds Averaged Navier Stokes equations are known to fail, such as highly separated flow regions. However given the massive computational demand and time involved in setting up and solving an LES solution, our engineers also make use of Detached Eddy Simulation (DES) and Scale Adaptive Simulation (SAS) turbulence models. Combining RANS and LES in a more efficient manner, the computational time and effort required on the domain mesh is significantly reduced. With the use of ANSYS CFX, parallel computing and 32G RAM machines, IDAC engineers are able to turn around solutions in less than a week from receiving the geometry from the client. Speak to us today to see how CFD can help you.
