Develp3D Reviews ANSYS Workbench   Read more
"There are very few organisations that are pushing the limits of simulation technology as much as ANSYS." reports Al Dean from Develop3d.com. He goes on to explain how the current version of ANSYS Workbench has "stepped up a gear" in terms of making the system more user friendly as well as "providing more power to connect the various constituent products." Dean goes on to explain how user interaction on a high level is to just drag and drop your items from the UI list in order to accomplish your simulation task. Read more

Crystals in the mix   Read more
When producing active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) via crystallisation, the combination of radially-pumping and axially-pumping impellers in the glass-lined reaction vessel has its benefits. Many pharmaceutical and chemical manufacturers have processes that involve crystallisation (the process of obtaining a solid by precipitating crystals from a solution). More specifically, crystallisation is used in the manufacture of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs), where glass-lined vessels are frequently used as batch reactors in the crystallisation process.   Multiphysics: All at Once   Read more

Multiphysics software is moving into the mainstream. It is also becoming a collaborative tool. These applications simulate physical phenomena in tandem to depict real-life behavior on a virtual prototype. Not so long ago, trained analysts solved for one physical phenomenon at a time. They would model and solve for structural integrity, say, then import the model into another system to solve for aerodynamic behavior. Multiphysics packages allow them simulate and analyze both these behaviors—and many more—at the same time. Read more

  ANSYS Class3 Error Reports
  ERROR NO:
2010-03

Description of Error: In a Single Point Response Spectrum analysis (ANTYPE,SPECTRUM with SPOPT,SPRS), when linear interpolation is activated for a spectrum (KeyInterp=1 on the SVTYP command), it is done between spectrum curves. However, the interpolation erroneously remains logarithmic between frequency points. Read More

  ERROR NO:
WB2010-01

Description of Error: If you perform a background solve (My Computer, Background) in the Mechanical application, then modify a material property (Engineering Data cell) and refresh the Model cell before downloading the results, and then later download results, the Report Preview in the Mechanical application will display the new material property value along with the results of the solve performed with the old material property value. There is no indication that the material property value and the results are not from the same solve. Read More

  ERROR NO:
WB2010-02
Description of Error: If a line body is created in DesignModeler, the orientation of its edges may be incorrect when the geometry is transferred to Mechanical on computers that are using a comma as the decimal symbol. The incorrect orientation will be apparent once the beam is meshed. Read More

 Consultancy Service

As part of our day to day consultancy and sales activities IDAC has often highlighted and demonstrated to our customers that there are alternative, more efficient ways of using ANSYS software. This service also encompasses demonstrations of what's new in the current release of ANSYS Workbench. We at IDAC have a huge amount of experience using both ANSYS Classic and ANSYS Workbench environments and more than 1000 consultancy projects delivered over the last decade of our operations, shown here.

Please contact IDAC on +44 (0)844 212 5900 directly if you would like one of our engineers to visit and review your engineering analysis process.
All we need to make an assessment of your product or process design is details of design (drawings, iges data, 3D CAD Models) and its performance specification. We are here to discuss your analysis needs so don't hesitate to contact us. IDAC consultants constantly help customers develop product designs and processes as well as creating new designs that solve a range of industry problems. All consultancy project files are made available to our customers on CD/DVD to assist in technology transfer. Please take a look at the Consultancy Services section of our website for more information. If you are interested in speeding up usage or to offer ‘simple to drive’ ANSYS software to other less technical members of your team such as sales or planning staff contact us directly and we will produce a very competative proposal.

Flow Modeling Analysis of Heat Exchanger Cuts Two Weeks and $100,000+ From Design Cycle

A plate style cooler is a type of heat exchanger used in engine systems. The plate cooler contains dimples which provide structural support but may impede the coolant flow. The engineering goal was to come up with an optimal shape for the dimples as well as their placement to even the flow distribution through the cooler. For durability, the flow needed to be directed to the corners to prevent hot spots from developing. Additionally, the pressure drop across the part had to be minimized to improve the fuel economy of the engine. Read More

Analysis Pushes The envelope   Read more

Tom Shelley reports on how advanced analysis has turned projects that might otherwise not be feasible into business successes. British-designed water pumps for Chinese trucks, 80mph model cars and a flying car are all projects that would be unlikely to succeed without use of advanced analysis. The 80mph car has a 3.5cm3 nitro engine capable of producing 2.85hp at 33,000rpm; a level of performance possible due to its level of engineering. Read More

The Importance of Airflow in The Beautiful Game
The quadrennial FIFA World Cup Final is one of the largest sporting events on the planet, with over a billion fans estimated to tune in to the championship match in Berlin, Germany. However, beyond the aspirations of the 32 nations competing for the title, there is also an unprecedented amount of leading-edge science and engineering going on in the background. As evidenced by the experience of many players and spectators alike, the impact of aerodynamics on soccer is reckoned to be one of the most complicated and perplexing in sport, especially when related to soccer ball trajectories and stadium design.
