SpaceClaim Sitting in the Catbird Seat
  Read more

The unCAD upstart got a ringing endorsement from its venture capital partners this week. Sales are through the roof as SpaceClaim Professional wins the hearts of simulation experts. We predict a bidding war in 2011. SpaceClaim customers are discovering they can eliminate bottlenecks in their work flow by quickly de-featuring CAD models for simulation and analysis. These firms are also elevating the role of simulation in design, by making simulation a strategic tool to initiate geometry creation, not to validate it after the fact. Read more

Dynamic Structures Uses ANSYS to Build World's Largest Telescope
  Read more

The British Columbian company is working to design and build the massive telescope’s support structure and enclosure. The telescope in progress will allow researchers and astronomers to see galaxies forming at the edge of our observable universe. The telescope is made up of 492 movable mirror segments, which need rigid support to avoid moving the mirrors out of place. The engineering team at Dynamic Solutions used ANSYS mechanical software to generate various runs to calculate structural performance. The telescope is expected to be completed in 2018. These pre-production simulations allowed them to reduce the mass of the structure and save approximately $5 Million. Read more

Ship-Shape Simulation

Designing ships is a demanding process, since vessels are among the most massive and mechanically complex moving structures in the world. ships must operate reliably in harsh environments and meet stringent standards. Vuyk Engineering Rotterdam (VER) has used Ansys Mechanical software exclusively since 2002 for structural analysis in determining stress distributions, elastic deformation, reaction forces and component fatigue. Engineers utilize the software for other types of detailed analysis such as calculation of structural vibration and impact loads of one structure colliding with another. Vuyk chose Ansys after an exhaustive evaluation of competitive packages based on it's flexibility. Read more

EASA 5 - Your Software the Way You Want It
  Visit website
EASA addresses the fact that software use within most organizations is rarely optimal. This may be due to issues such as, limitations of commercial software, difficulty in integrating legacy codes into modern computing environments and the complexity associated with using multiple software applications for a single process. EASA completely changes the economics of creating and deploying custom applications, because, EASA is truly codeless meaning you don’t need to be a programmer to create and deploy an application of a professional standard, helping companies save time and money. Terrafugia's "Roadable Aircraft" Engineered with Virtual Prototyping from ANSYS
  Read more
Massachusetts-based Terrafugia used ANSYS(R) engineering simulation software to design and verify its new production prototype of the Transition(R) aircraft that also can drive on the highway, which was unveiled yesterday at the EAA AirVenture airshow. Terrafugia engineers conducted whole-vehicle airflow tests that assessed the effects of design changes on overall performance -- working in parallel across the various Transition components. The simulations were used to maximize wing lift in the air and to minimize the effects of crosswinds along the road. Read more
