IDAC Wind Farm Modelling Seminar 2010
Agenda
Session 1: Welcome & Introduction 9:00-9:30
| A Brief introduction to the day, summarizing the current situation of the wind industry, the current technologies used in wind farm analysis, and introducing the applications of Finite Element Analysis and Computational Fluid Dynamics within the wind industry. |
Session 2: Blade Design and CFD simulation on 2D/3D Wing Sections 9:30-10:30
| A lecture looking at historical airfoils and current trends in airfoil design, Design considerations for 2D airfoil and 3D wings, Analysis on a generic airfoil against varying angle of attacks and Reynolds number and Parameterization and design improvements using CFD. |
Coffee Break |
Session 3: Onshore Terrain Modelling 10:45-12:00
| Lecture looking at using CFD to model wind conditions for Onshore Wind farms. Areas that will be covered include boundary conditions, developing flow, terrain roughness and canopy affects. This will also included a demonstration of a simulation on actual 3D terrain data. |
Session 4: Offshore Wind Turbine Modelling 13:00-13:30
| Lecture looking at using CFD to model wind conditions for Offshore Wind farms. Looking at problems that are exclusive to the wind industry offshore, such as Wave interactions, Sloshing and Buoyancy Effects. |
Session 5: Onshore Wake Modelling 13:30-14:15
| Lecture looking at modeling Wind Turbine wakes onshore, looking at ground effects on wakes as well as onshore wake interactions and terrain effects on wake propagation. |
Coffee Break |
Session 6: Offshore Wake Modelling 14:30-15:00
| Lecture looking modeling Wind Turbine wake affects offshore, looking at the effects of wave/wake interactions and the interactions of wakes within larger wind parks i.e. Wind Park Effects |
Coffee Break |
Session 7: Finite Element Analysis within the Wind Industry 15:15-16:15
| Lecture looking at the applications of Finite Element Analysis within the wind industry, looking at the applications of such analyses as Harmonic, Modal ,Fluid Structural interactions, Fatigue and Explicit Dynamics |
Session 8: Conclusions and Wrap up 16:15-17:00
| Brief Summary of key points covered followed by a group discussion on the days topics |
